- Timing: roughly 6:30–8:30pm, never earlier — it's a bridge to dinner, not a substitute for it.
- The drink is bitter-forward on purpose — Aperol, Campari, vermouth — meant to stimulate appetite, not dull it.
- Snacks (stuzzichini) are small and savory: olives, chips, tiny sandwiches — some bars include them free with any drink.
- It's fundamentally social — aperitivo alone is rare; it exists to close a day with friends or colleagues.
